The Omugwo Village: 40-Day Postpartum Support
What The Omugwo Village Is
The Omugwo Village is OmugwoCare's signature 40-day postpartum support program for new mothers and their families.
The first weeks after childbirth can be physically, emotionally, and practically demanding. The Omugwo Village helps families organize the support around the mother so she has more opportunity to rest, recover, care for her newborn, and adjust to life after birth.
Families can use the program to identify what the mother needs, organize family and community support, request trained non-medical caregiver support, plan meals and rest, coordinate light household assistance, and prepare for the transition beyond the first 40 days.
The goal is simple: bring the village back around the mother.
The 40-Day Mother Care Plan
The 40-Day Mother Care Plan helps mothers and families organize practical support for the first 40 days after childbirth.
Every mother's needs are different. The plan helps families think ahead about the practical support that can make the postpartum period easier and more organized. The plan may include:
Family Care Circle Coordination
The Family Care Circle helps the mother identify the people who can support her.
A mother's village might include a partner or spouse, mother, mother-in-law, auntie, sister, cousin, friend, neighbor, faith community contact, trained caregiver, or community partner.
OmugwoCare helps families clarify what each person can contribute so postpartum support becomes organized, visible, and easier to activate when the mother needs it.
Postpartum Caregiver Matching
Caregiver Matching Request

OmugwoCare helps mothers and families request matching with trained, non-medical postpartum support caregivers based on factors such as availability, location, language, support needs, family preferences, and caregiver fit.
Caregiver matching is designed to connect families with practical postpartum support that fits their circumstances. Caregivers do not provide medical care, nursing care, diagnosis, treatment, or clinical services.
Practical Postpartum Support
OmugwoCare helps families coordinate practical support that can make the early postpartum period easier for mothers and their families.
The Four Phases of Care
Days 1-7: The Arrival of the Village
The first days after birth focus on rest, nourishment, hydration, visitor boundaries, emotional reassurance, and practical support around the mother and newborn.
Days 8-14: The Village Finds Its Rhythm
As the family adjusts to life with a newborn, this phase focuses on clarifying roles, coordinating family support, and establishing a steady rhythm around the mother's needs.
Days 15-28: The Mother Is Strengthened
This phase focuses on maintaining supportive routines, building confidence, protecting rest, and continuing practical help at home as the mother and family adjust.
Days 29-40: The Village Continues
As the first 40 days come to a close, the family reflects on what has worked, identifies ongoing support needs, and prepares for the next stage of the postpartum journey.
Non-Medical Postpartum Support
OmugwoCare provides non-medical postpartum support and care navigation. We do not provide medical care, nursing care, therapy, diagnosis, emergency services, clinical monitoring, or treatment.
When a mother's or family's needs fall outside OmugwoCare's scope, we help identify appropriate licensed providers, emergency resources, or community partners.
